LiveAfrica was originally founded in 2001, spearheaded by the passionate and experienced travel industry duo of Steve and Bridgit Griessel.
Born and raised in South Africa, the couple combined their extensive knowledge of tourism, marketing and product development, with the desire to make the dreams of those who want to explore Africa a reality.
Steve co-founded Tourism Investment Corporation Limited (Tourvest), a highly successful publicly traded company in sub-Saharan Africa and the Indian Ocean islands. After selling his shares in Tourvest, he was appointed the Project CEO of the International Marketing Committee (IMC) by South African President Thabo Mbeki, to market the country to grow foreign investment and trade, before relocating the USA.
At the age of 21, Bridgit launched her entrepreneurial career with the start-up venture BY Design, which provided marketing and advertising services to clients in South Africa. The company later grew and became LiveTechology Inc, a premier Internet product development company and was launched on the international arena.
Following relocation to Orlando, Florida in the United States, the couple’s relationships and knowledge of the travel industry within Southern Africa continued to grow. They designed personalized adventures for friends, family and colleagues, as well as what has become an annual African Family Safari for Young Presidents’ Organization, which has introduced hundreds of families to the wonders of Africa. With this success, it was only natural for Steve and Bridgit to take their dreams a step further by creating Live Africa, establishing an exclusive partnership with Johannesburg-based operators, Arrive in Africa, winner of the prestigious Welcome Award’s “Best Tour Operator 2008.” This dynamic partnership is an exciting step for the Griessels, ensuring the excellence inherent to their Life Africa mission to creating an unforgettable African journey for each of their clients.
I’ve been privileged to experience something that few people have, but everyone should; something that is greater and more moving than one could comprehend. I have recently come back from a 16-day safari where I rode atop an elephant, felt the spray of Victoria Falls, and came within feet of a lion! The people were gracious, the food was exotic, and the animals were remarkable. I truly believe that until you have visited South Africa with Live Africa, words will not do justice to all of the magic that it has to offer.
