Expert Insight: Itinerary Planning

Questions that will help create an itinerary for you would be:

1. Do you have and specific areas of Interest you have heard of that you would specifically like to include or exclude while you are in Southern Africa?

A baseline itinerary would include areas such as:

  • Cape Town – A beautiful city rich in history, culture and marine life.  Cape Town is often visited as the entry point to Southern Africa.
  • Johannesburg – A night in Johannesburg is usually included in most itineraries due to logistics of traveling to the Safari regions of the Kruger National Park or Botswana as most flights to their regions are in the morning.
  • Southern Africa Safari region of Sabi Sands Game Reserve – Hosts some of Africa's premier safari camps such as Singita and Sabi Sabi.  The reserve is a 65 000 hectare (153 000 acre) wildlife sanctuary which forms part of the greater 2.3 million hectare (5.7 million acre) Kruger National Park game preservation area. The Sabi Sand shares a common 50km (31 miles) unfenced eastern boundary with the world famous Kruger National Park. No fences exist within this area and animals are free to roam unhindered through the enormous conservancy with habitat types ranging from thicket to open savannah.
  • Botswana – offers possibly the finest, authentic wildlife experience in the world. It is comprised largely of the Kalahari Desert, within which lies the Okavango Delta, a wonderful blue-green wetland considered by many to be Africa's most incredible wildlife and wilderness sanctuary. This dynamic water world contrasts with an ecosystem driven by different stimuli in the Linyanti and Selinda region in the north of the country.
  • Zambia – A true colonial Africa experience which is filled with adventure opportunities for the adrenaline seeking traveler or you can just enjoy the unbelievable sights of the Victoria Falls which is one of the Natural 7 Wonders of the world.  Running through Zambia is the great Zambezi River which is teaming with wildlife and a boat ride down the river at Sunset has never disappointed even the most discerning traveler.
  • Mauritius – is a small jewel of an island adrift in the turquoise waters of the Indian Ocean, a little over 1,200 miles to the southeast of the African continent.  It remains one of the world's most popular beach holiday destinations.
  • Namibia - Although it is the oldest desert in the world it is far from being lifeless and barren. The long costal desert features an unusual variety of desert-adapted fauna and flora, which includes a large number of endemic plants, reptiles, insects, and bird species. Main tourist attractions like the Sossusvlei, Sandwich Harbour and Skeleton Coast Park are within the Namib Desert.
